Freeing yourself from a CLUTTERED, CLOUDED mind

Today I want to share with you a powerful image if you want to free yourself from a mind that is racing with too many thoughts.

We all know what it feels to have a clouded, cluttered mind and I think it’s safe to say that we all hate that feeling 🙅‍♀️

Too many thoughts blaring in your brain rattling down into every cell of your body like a wave of stress and anxiety. No thanks.

It’s literally the opposite of living an intentional, joyful, present life.

One of my intentions this year is to return to a regular meditation practice, so this morning, after dropping the kids at camp, I cozied up in a chair in my garden under our Autumn Blaze Red Maple that I planted a few years ago and absolutely adore.

Some mornings I like to just sit in silence with my mantra word from when I practiced Transcendental Meditation years ago, while some other mornings I tune into a guided meditation.

Today I opted to let myself be guided by a woman named Neeli on the Melissa Wood Health app (btw, I highly recommend this app if you are looking for a mix between pilates, sculpt, yoga and meditation classes).

In the meditation, Neeli said that oftentimes our minds are like windshields on a rainy day with every raindrop symbolizing a different thought.

As a visual person, this image really resonated with me.

Our minds have such a sneaky way of getting too busy, too cluttered, too clouded and then we simply CANNOT SEE.

⟶ We cannot see what’s right in front of us… is it a rainbow on the horizon or a pothole we should avoid driving into?

⟶ We cannot decide if we should turn right or left or simply go straight for a while longer.

⟶ When our minds are cluttered with so many raindrops that we cannot see, we are lost.

Neeli went on to say that YOU have the power to turn on the wipers whenever you want.

It is in YOUR control to clear your thoughts, to brush them to the side, to clear you slate so that you actually SEE what is in front of you.

The clearing of the mind, the ability to think well, the capacity to know when to turn on the windshield wipers is a practice we can all adopt that will pay us back a million times over.

A cluttered, clouded mind simply cannot be present, cannot make the best choices, cannot take you to a place where you intuition and inner voice are sound guides in your daily life.

Try it right now:

  • Take a deep breath.

  • Close your eyes.

  • See the raindrops on your inner windshield.

  • And then, when you’re ready, turn on those windshield wipers and see what it feels like just for a moment to see clearly and effortlessly.

With love as always,

Caroline
