Self Quest: Where do you need more self-compassion?

This week, I want to do a gentle check-in with you.

Many people in my life are the ambitious kind. The kind that has big goals, wild dreams, and high standards for themselves.

And while I truly love the bright energy of ambition, because I am a coach, I also often see the dark side of it: self-criticism and guilt when things don't go as planned.

So let me ask you:

  • Do you easily beat yourself up over the smallest things?

  • Do you carry guilt even when no one's blaming you?

  • Do you ever feel like everyone else has it together… except you?

I get it.

In fact, I find it baffling how easily self-criticism sneaks in everywhere —

…when we lose patience with our kids

… forget something at work

… are dealing with a health issue that forces us to press pause

… notice a new wrinkle in the mirror

… say the “wrong” thing in a conversation we keep replaying for days

It's exhausting being your own biggest critic, isn't it?

But here's the thing: what if there's another way? What if the version of you that messes up, zones out, breaks down, or just needs a moment… is the one who deserves your tenderness the most?

Self-compassion isn't a fluffy concept — it's a powerful form of emotional strength and, in my opinion, a vital tool for self-regulation and nervous system healing.

It's the practice of remembering you're human, and loving yourself because of that, not in spite of it.

With that in mind, let's explore this week's Self Quest question:

Survey your life and ask yourself:

  • Where have I been cornering, bullying or guilt-tripping myself?

  • Where do I need to be a little easier on myself so I can regain energy?

  • Where am I craving gentleness, understanding and a kinder tone?

You deserve an inner voice that advocates for you, that sees you lying on the ground and offers a hand to help you up (not another kick).

You can take this week's question and simply reflect on it on your own, you can use it as a journal prompt (very powerful ), or you can go on a walk with friends and discuss it in a group (builds connection ).

With love as always,

Caroline
