Looking for your unique purpose? A question for you to help you along.

Today I want to chat with you about your unique purpose, your mission in life, your calling, your personal direction, your life path.

As a coach, the question of what one is meant to do in this one precious life comes up a lot in my work.

And, it may come up at various chapters in life again and again because YES, what you are meant to DO in life can shift as who you are –or allowing yourself to BE– is evolving, deepening, and authenticating.

I believe that there are various iterations of YOU and I believe that when we can lean into that continuous exploration of self and what’s possible, your life can be deeply satisfying and interesting.

(Sidenote: This whole blogpost was inspired by a thought I had last night when I was lying in bed thinking about what I want to tell people on my deathbed (because obviously I picture myself in a good mood and fully alert until the moment I pass to the other side ;)). For me, I want to tell my loved ones that I had a really interesting, creative, and fully expressed life. That there were different seasons where I embodied different roles and sometimes it was really hard, but that I lived each season with real gusto and presence.)

  • But, how do you find your purpose?

  • How do you know what you are meant to do?

  • How do you find your unique path that allows you to add value and fell satisfied in return?

The answer is this: CURIOUS INQUIRY.

You cannot forcefully squeeze out an answer and you cannot pay someone to just tell you. Wouldn’t that be nice? ;)

It really is about being curious and inquiring until you start to hear you inner voice.

Now, what I do think is helpful –maybe one of the most helpful things in nearly all areas of life– are GOOD QUESTIONS.

→ Good questions can point you in the right direction.

→ Good questions can peel back the layers and let you see more deeply.

→ Good questions can wake up something inside of you that responds with wisdom and integrity.

Today, I want to offer you one question like that which I believe is very helpful in pointing you in the right direction when it comes to unveiling your purpose.

The question is:

What can you recall easily and effortlessly?

I will use myself as an example:

If someone tells me financial numbers about their business of whatever, I will not be able to recall those numbers just minutes later. But, if someone tells me about their childhood, their birth story, their relationships or inner struggles, I will remember exact details and the facial expressions with which they were told, for years.

Looking at finances gives me zero pleasure and my memory doesn’t cooperate easily. However, listening to people’s stories and pointing out patterns and asking more questions, lights me up and my memory turns on effortlessly for it. It has always been like that.

Now you tell me: Is my purpose to be a financial advisor or someone who works with people’s stories and inner lives?

My point is this:

We are all different and our awareness and memories are attracted, drawn in, and woken up in unique ways. A huge piece of your purpose is to find the field…

→ where your energy lights up,

→ where you can work your magic intuitively and effortlessly,

→ where you are working in alignment with your nature.

So in that spirit, over to you:

  • Where do you have an exceptional ability to remember things?

  • What details are easy for you to recall and remember?

  • What kind of information can you soak up effortlessly and therefore turn into something valuable?

Allow this to be the STARTING POINT for a continuous inquiry into yourself.

And when you (inevitably, as we all do) get stuck, give it a rest and come back a few days later.
