Are you trying to be the perfect mom (& feel a little exhausted from it)?
A few months ago, I decided to be more open and transparent on social media about my real experience being a mom. Not that I ever lied, but like pretty much everyone else, it was just easier to capture the beautiful and easy moments—and much harder to be vulnerable and tell "the full story."
I came to a point where I realized that telling the full story and being really honest about the beauty AND challenges of motherhood will serve everyone—ultimately creating what we moms often crave most: honest woman-to-woman, mom-to-mom connection without the perfect facade.
In fact, I kinda felt like it was my responsibility to be really real.
As the creator Well Mama, I am not here to pretend like motherhood is a shiny, easy, flawless experience. I'm here to share that you can still find a way to be WELL as a whole woman, mom and wife within motherhood. My intention is for us all to make honest progress together.
Since I started being more transparent on social media, I've gotten a lot of comments on my posts on Instagram and Facebook from other moms telling me that they feel EXACTLY the same.
They often tell me things like "you're a great mom."
Obviously "you're a great mom" or "you're doing a great job" is nice to hear, but if I am honest with you, 95% of the time I know that I’m doing a good job—and not in any kind of arrogant way.
Deep in my mama soul, I know how endlessly I love my boys and that I am doing my absolute best—even on my less patient days. I give being a mom everything I’ve got, and I know by the way that my sons look at me that they know that too.
BUT, just because I feel that I'm a good mom—doesn’t mean that I don't still need to work on myself and actively put in time and effort to not let my health, happiness and connection to myself and my partner slip away.
It doesn't mean that being a mom is always easy or that I’m doing things perfect or right all the time.
It doesn’t mean that I don’t have questions, that I don’t doubt myself, or that I’m not still learning lessons every single day.
It doesn't mean I am exempt from mom-guilt and never wish that I did something better or differently.
It doesn't mean that on some days I'm not reallyyyy tired and want to drown my sorrows in some wine and chocolate.
And, it sure as hell doesn’t mean that I don’t need a community of other moms who I can trust and get advice from or simply vent to when I feel like I am bubbling over with emotions (because let's be honest, being a mom is the most emotional thing I've ever done).
Your kids don't need you to be perfect. They need you to be your real, loving, funny, silly, imperfect self.
And they need YOU to be healthy and supported and cared for as well because that is the only way you can truly show up for them.
We both know that finding the time and space to actually care for yourself is really freaking difficult. Heck, it's difficult for people without kids!
But remember, it's not about being perfect. It's not about going to yoga or drinking homemade green juice every day.
A little bit today is more than nothing at all. You don't have to either take care of yourself or not, there is a ton of grey space in between for you to explore and fill step by step with a better way to care for your own well-being, so you can be the woman, mom and wife you want to be!
YOU matter, mama. And you matter NOW because your life is happening now.
That is why I want you to join me and a group of other amazing women for Well Mama, an 8-week program for moms who want to find their way back to themselves and find out what health and happiness looks like for them—in their own life, in their marriage, in their career—now that they are a mother.
As you know, Well Mama is opening its doors for enrollment on Thursday, December 7th (the actual course won't start until January 21st) and I would love for you to join us on an incredible 8-week journey exploring YOU, the mama who runs the whole show.
Leave your name and info here and you'll be the first to know about when Well Mama opens it's doors + get a chance to snag some awesome bonuses ;)
Love,
